WORLD SOCCER CHALLENGE -
Vancouver Whitecaps
The Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team used the excitement of the 2006 World Cup to boost their database to help fill their new stadium.
Soccer enthusiasts were enticed with the chance of a $1 million payout for correctly predicting the outcome of all 2006 World Cup games. A bracket contest mechanism, similar to ones used for March Madness, was used. The Whitecaps partnered with the Vancouver Province newspaper to promote the contest.
