Systems Engineer - Calgary, AB

This position will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, using the most advanced, reliable software system that is a real-time, network intensive, global application. It was developed to ensure immediate, real-time playing and a stable interface.

You will work alongside a team of several other highly skilled people in a very relaxed and rewarding atmosphere. Our team utilizes its talents to find real working solutions to real-world problems dealing with high network throughput, voluminous database access, redundancy, security, compression, data archival and backup, among other issues.

Join a Systems team responsible for deploying and administering leading edge technology to support a mission critical environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Administer network of Linux Servers in a 24/7 environment
  • Monitoring Linux/Windows services
  • Basic and Advanced system administration responsibilities such as backup and restore, replication and migration, nfs, ntp, httpd, shell scripting, performance tuning
  • Build and implement new server hardware based on the AMD, Intel processors
  • Configure and maintain all Linux systems and software across the company
  • Troubleshoot hardware, networking, and Linux issues as they arise
  • Research, test, and implement new software and hardware
  • Develop shell script utilities for administration duties
  • Perform system performance tuning and optimization
  • Provide technical expertise to our team of developers and analysts
  • Install and administer commercial and proprietary software, utilities, compilers and licensing
  • Install and maintain special purpose servers
Requirements of the candidate include:
  • Strong Redhat Linux background: 3-10 years of hands-on experience
  • Knowledge of:
    • NFS
    • Jumpstart/Kickstart
    • Shell scripting
    • Perl
    • Database experience
